Our education programs are designed to expose students to the wonder and enjoyment of a live opera performance and to showcase the importance of arts education in our schools. We are truly dedicated to educating through entertaining. All of our performers are young professionals who serve as Artists in Residence with Pensacola Opera. Our programs support both State and National standards for education.

An Aesop Odyssey (K-5)
Join the Country Mouse and the City Mouse on a journey of lessons as they discover if the grass is really greener on the other side. In this opera by David Gooding, the Mice encounter the Tortoise and the Hare, the Cricket and the Ant, and the North Wind and the Sun.  Students will learn time-tested morals including “slow and steady wins the race,” “prepare early,” and “be happy where you are.”

(Your) Opera in a Trunk (Grades 6-12)
An original work commissioned by Pensacola Opera, this highly interactive performance is an improvised opera created in front of the students using their suggestions and items in our opera trunk. Students will learn about the operatic form while experiencing it, directing the action of the plot from what they have learned. This opera is guaranteed to make a believer out of any opera cynic.

Both performances conclude with a Q & A session between the students and performers. Teacher packets including information on opera production and history as well as interdisciplinary activities for use in the classroom are provided prior to the performance. In-class visits by opera staff before the performance may also be scheduled.
