This new work, commissioned from Florida composer David Ott by Pensacola Opera, will mark the first full-length original piece developed by the company. Supported by grants from the National Endowment of the Arts and Opera America, the tale is drawn from Pensacola area history and legend. The Widow’s Lantern tells the story of a doomed love between a slave and a ship’s captain at the end of the Atlantic slave trade, using Pensacola’s famed Lighthouse as backdrop. The Widow’s Lantern premieres at the University of West Florida, before touring Northwest Florida through October. Join us for this exciting milestone and very special production!
