Maria Callas (Kathy Holsworth, PLT Artistic Director) is teaching a master class in front of an audience (Artists in Residence, Pensacola Opera) in the late 1970’s. Callas is glamorous, commanding, larger than life – and drop dead funny.

Christina Pezzarossi

Originally from Miles City, Montana, Mezzo-soprano Christina Pezzarossi received her Master’s degree from the The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. Ms. Pezzarossi’s operatic roles include Flora in La Traviata, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, the title role in Agrippina, and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. This summer, she will return as an Apprentice Artist to Des Moines Metro Opera’s Summer Festival, where she will cover the Stewardess in Flight and perform in various scenes and concerts. She has also performed with Opera San Jose, Opera NEO, Oberlin in Italy, Emerald City Opera, and Taos Opera Institute and received an Encouragement Award from the San Francisco Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

Andrea Baker

Andrea Baker is a Chicago based Soprano who was most recently an artist in residence with Pensacola Opera where she covered the roles of Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, Rosalba in Florencia en el Amazonas, and was the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate and Rossini’s Stabat Mater.  For three seasons she was an apprentice artist with Des Moines Metro Opera where she sang a small role in Philip Glass’s Galileo Galilei, covered Liù in Turandot and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus. She was also an apprentice artist with Sarasota Opera where she covered Marzelline in Fidelio, and in 2016 Andrea was a winner of the central district of Chicago Metropolitan Opera National Council Awards. Other operatic roles include Alice Ford (Falstaff), First Lady (The Magic Flute), Viola (Twelfth Night) which was a world premiere by Joel Feign with DePaul Opera Theater, Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) with D’Angelo Opera Theater and Musetta (La bohème) with Erie Opera Theater. Andrea is thrilled to be returning to Pensacola Opera in 2020 to sing the feisty role of Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

Alexander Scheuermann

Praised for his sweet tone and nuanced stagecraft, tenor Alexander Scheuermann has been called “a performer’s performer,” appearing in both theatrical and concert settings across the US and Europe. Recent roles include the cover of Tim Laughlin in Fellow Travelers with Des Moines Metro Opera, Remendado in Carmen with Salt Marsh Opera, Marco in The Gondoliers with Winter Opera St. Louis, and Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance with Opera Tampa. He makes a role and company debut as Fenton in Falstaff with Raylynmor Opera in 2022. Alexander has been a resident artist with Pensacola Opera and Kentucky Opera, and holds degrees in voice from Florida State University and the University of Houston.
