Dr. Rachel Gibson is a talented mezzo-soprano and voice teacher in Pensacola. A Mississippi transplant, she has called Pensacola home since just before the pandemic. Dr. Gibson is an active operatic performer, having appeared on stages across the South and in Germany and Italy. Her signature roles include Bizet’s Carmen, Cherubino from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Hänsel from Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. As a teacher, she fosters each of her students’ individual voices, aiming for them to “make healthy sound come out of their faces.” She guides her students through erasing bad vocal habits, and into joyful storytelling through song. She is currently teaching at The University of West Florida in the Musical Theatre department. Dr. Gibson is the Music Director at her beloved church, St. Christopher’s Episcopal. She also volunteers with J.U.S.T. Pensacola, a nonprofit dedicated to battling local injustice. In her nonexistent spare time, she sings with the Choral Society, and loves watching documentaries and doing puzzles with her husband, Jacob.
