Details
Ever since Beethoven’s esteemed “An die ferne Geliebte” took the musical world by storm, many composers have created song sets—known as cycles—as standalone, cohesive collections of individual art songs. Bonded together either by a narrative throughline, or with a common theme, a song cycle takes the audience on a journey with the performer via the intimate setting of an art song recital.
This program will feature our 2021 Artists in Residence performing three beloved song cycles: “Ariettes oubliées” by Claude Debussy, “Histoires naturelles” by Maurice Ravel, and Gustav Mahler’s powerful “Rückert-Lieder.” Capacity is limited at the Opera Center, and audience members will be socially distanced and required to wear masks throughout the performance.
