La vie bohème

An opera/musical mashup event

PERFORMANCES

January 9, 2023 – 6:00 PM

LOCATION

The Cabaret

101 S Jefferson St E, Pensacola, FL 32502

details

La bohème set the stage for one of Broadway’s biggest hits – RENT. Composer Jonathan Larson studied Puccini’s work intensely, “I analyzed the libretto, broke it down beat by beat,” Larson told the New York Times, and adapted the story from tuberculosis and the streets of Paris, to the East Village streets of Manhattan during the AIDS epidemic. His rock opera adaptation of the classic Italian opera hit the Broadway stage in 1996.

Four bohemians, two versions, one powerful story of love. As we prepare for our upcoming production of Puccini’s La bohème, join us for this opera/musical mashup event! Selections from La bohème and the Broadway hit rock opera RENT will be performed karaoke-style by local musical theatre singers and our own Jan Miller Studio Artists, highlighting the similarities (and differences) between the two scores, while telling the same devastatingly romantic musical story of a group of bohemians as they fight disease and poverty through friendship and love.
